Why the certificate matters
A wedding is a social event; registration is what makes it legal on paper. Without the certificate you cannot apply for a spouse visa, add a wife to a passport, open certain joint accounts, claim an insurance nomination, or change a surname on Aadhaar and PAN without being asked for proof. Most people discover this a week before a visa interview — which is the worst possible time to start.

- What happens
- A passport or visa application asks for the certificate and there is nothing to produce. The wedding card is long gone.
- Why it is still possible
- There is no bar on registering an older marriage. What changes is the evidence — children's birth certificates naming both parents, old photographs, a ration card with both names.

- Look at what you actually have and tell you honestly whether it carries the file, before you spend anything.
The bride's name differs across documents
- What happens
- Aadhaar says one spelling, the school certificate another. The file is registered on one of them and the mismatch resurfaces at the passport stage.
- The right order
- Fix the name first — usually an affidavit, sometimes a gazette — and register afterwards, so the certificate carries the name you will actually use.
- Why it matters
- A certificate issued on the wrong spelling is harder to correct than a name fixed before registration.
After the certificate
For a surname change, the certificate is the base document. Depending on where you need it accepted, a gazette notification may also be required — a passport office will usually want one. The updates then follow in order: Aadhaar, PAN, bank, passport, then everything else. We can handle that as one package so you are not repeating the same explanation at six counters.

How many days does it take?
For a marriage already solemnised, usually 7 to 15 working days from submission, depending on the registrar's appointment date and whether every document is complete.

Yes. If you don't have the invitation card, an affidavit is prepared in its place. For older marriages other supporting evidence can be used too. Send us what you have and we will tell you whether it is enough.
હા — કંકોત્રી ના હોય તો તેની જગ્યાએ સોગંદનામું બને છે.Who can be a witness?
Any two adults with valid ID (Aadhaar or other) who can attest to the marriage — family members are accepted. Both witnesses attend the registrar appointment with you. The ID proof of the maharaj or kazi who solemnised the marriage is also required.

No. There is no bar on registering an older marriage — only the supporting evidence has to be stronger.

Registration is required under Gujarat law, and separately it is what every other authority asks for as proof. Whether or not anyone chases you for it, you will need it the first time you apply for a passport or a visa.
